Where the pharmacy meets cosmetics: external Thai remedies for skin problems — Salve 29A ointment and Abhai Herb clinacanthus lotions for psoriasis and dermatitis, "mangosteen iodine" for cuts and pimples, Zema antifungal cream for feet, Kokliang healing cream — and supplements for skin, hair and nails: collagen, biotin, zinc, glutathione, Jele Beautie jelly. About 60 products from Abhai Herb, Zema, 29A, Handy Herb, Vistra, Jele Beautie, Watsons and Thanyaporn.
How to choose
Flaking, plaques, itching — herbal external products (clinacanthus, Salve 29A) for 2–4 weeks; if no improvement, see a dermatologist. Foot fungus — Zema daily for 2–4 weeks plus dry shoes. Acne — zinc orally, antibacterial powder on spots. Dull skin, brittle nails, hair loss — collagen 2,500–5,000 mg with biotin and vitamin C for 2–3 months.
Good to know
Herbal external products and supplements do not treat chronic skin disease: psoriasis, eczema and nail fungus need a dermatologist's supervision. The section also contains pharmacy medicines such as steroid ointments — use them strictly as prescribed, in short courses, not on the face and not for children without advice. Patch-test on the inner elbow before first use.
