Liver and detox
Thai liver and detox herbs: look tai bai, thunbergia, triphala, artichoke, chlorophyll
Traditional Thai medicine has a whole class of "cleansing" herbs recognised by the Thai Ministry of Health: look tai bai (Phyllanthus amarus) for the liver, thunbergia (rang jued) for intoxication and hangovers, triphala — the Ayurvedic three-fruit blend, turmeric for bile flow. Plus Herbal One artichoke extract, Preaw chlorophyll sachets and noni. About 30 products from Thanyaporn, Herbal One, Kongka Herb, Preaw, Vistra, Abhai Herb and Khaolaor.
How to choose
After the holidays, heaviness under the right rib — look tai bai or artichoke for 3–4 weeks, turmeric after meals. Hangover, "heavy head", allergic rashes — thunbergia as tea or capsules for 3–5 days. Gentle daily cleansing — chlorophyll in water in the morning, triphala in the evening. Liver herbs work gradually: a course of at least a month, judged by how you feel.
Good to know
These are herbs and supplements, not treatment for liver disease: jaundice, pain under the right rib or abnormal test results need a gastroenterologist. Bile-stimulating herbs (turmeric, artichoke) — not with gallstones. Thunbergia and look tai bai — not in pregnancy and not for more than 1–2 months without a break. Do not combine several liver herbs at once.
